Welcome to Country Lane Co-operative Homes

Co-op Living in St. Catharines, Ontario

Our Mission Statement

“To create a diverse housing environment that cultivates opportunities and democracy within a progressive, vital community that promotes co-op principles and safe, affordable, quality housing.”

What Are We?

Are you looking for a housing co-op to join in the Niagara area?

Country Lane is a community of members that make their own decisions about the operations of the co-op. That means there is no landlord. The members democratically elect a Board of Directors who administer the co-op on their behalf. Through ongoing participation, members also assist in the day to day operations of the co-op.

Because Country Lane only charges members enough to cover costs, repairs and reserves, we can offer housing that is more affordable than average rents in the private sector.

If you become a member of Country Lane Co-op you will:

  • be a voting member who contributes to the governance of the co-op
  • become a part of a community where neighbours look out for each other

  • be part of a community that retains its affordability because it is run on a non-profit basis

Country Lane was incorporated in 1986 and is composed of sixty units, apartments and townhouses. Our location at 412 Louth St. is an area of St. Catharines with unrivaled conveniences for people of all ages and walks of life. We are a diverse community, welcoming people from different cultures, age groups and income levels.

We are members of the Golden Horseshoe Co-operative Housing Federation and the Co-operative Housing Federation of Canada. We have a new agreement with Canada Mortgage and Housing – the Federal Community Housing Initiative (FCHI), which enables the co-op to provide housing assistance to eligible members and are legislated through Ontario’s Co-operative Corporations Act.
